If you know me, you know I love comic books. So of course I had the bright idea of deciding I want to be in the comic book business where writers and artists get ripped off while billion companies makes millions of their ideas. God I just love the arts.
Anyways, I want to introduce you guys to the comic I’ve been working one for about a year or two. It’s the not my first comic, but it’s the one I want to work on first. You guys will see my first one soon, it’s a big project and I hope one day with enough life experience and skill it will live up to all the potential it has. But enough about that, I need to tell you guys about the comic I’m working on now.
The title character is named Diana. She’s an amnesiac with telekinetic powers on the run from her pain and her past. The pitch is she’s going on a quest to kill the woman who murdered her teacher/father figure. To get to her, she’ll have to go through 6 other of this woman’s compatriots. Through this journey, she’ll discover secrets of her past and of the world. But most importantly, she’ll learn to accept the devil within. If you want visual or story references, think Kill Bill, Kill La Kill, and Devil May Cry, three specifically.
For my first comic, I wanted something short and simple, but something that would push me. I think I’m a good writer, but I’m a pretty crappy artist. My therapist would kill me for saying that. So I’ll just say I’m a developing artist. I’m hoping in the process of developing this comic, that my skills will improve immensely. No better way to learn how to swim is jumping in the deep in as they say. I’ve written three issues so far, I’m expecting this to last 12 to 15 issues. So far I’ve only drawn two pages and I’m working on the cover. I have a long road ahead of me, but I’m not in it cause it’s easy. I’m in it for the love of the game.
The title of the comic is “D Is For Dangerous”. Unsurprisingly, a title as good as this didn’t come from me. She came up with it, even if I wanted her out of my life, which I don’t, I couldn’t get her out. Like any good muse, she’s deeply intertwined with all my art. At the core of my red beating heart. I spent months trying to come up with a name and she just came up with it on the spot while we were on the couch. She barely even knew what the story was about at the time. I just don’t know how she does it. It was like magic. It was like watching Jerry Siegel and Joe Shuster design Superman or Steve Ditko designing Spider-Man for the first time knowing the importance these characters will eventually have. I’m forever thankful for her naming my first comic. It’s only fitting that someone who inspired me to write is responsible for my comic’s name. One day I’ll figure out how to pay her back of all of this.
This sketch I’m showing ya’ll a character page I did for the main character Diana. It was so my writer’s group (Shoutout to family at Carles, Tiffany, and Brigid) had some frame of reference. They’ve been helping me work out the kinks of my comic. Like I said, my art isn’t the best, but it’s to get an idea of what the character looks like. I’m proud of it I think. I hope you guys like it. Any feedback I appreciate, whether positive or negative.
